Tips for Applying Car Ceramic Coating

If you’re looking for a way to protect your car’s paint job and keep it looking new, you may want to consider car ceramic coating. This process can help seal the paint and prevent damage from weather, UV rays, and other environmental factors. This article will provide some handy tips on how to apply ceramic coating correctly as well as how to choose the right ceramic coating product for your vehicle.

Choose the Right Product

Not all ceramic coating products are made equally. When choosing a product, be sure to read the instructions carefully and select a product that is specifically designed for automotive use. Applying a ceramic coating is a bit different than waxing or polishing your car, so it’s important that you choose a product that won’t be overly abrasive on your vehicle’s paintwork. If you’re unsure of which car ceramic coating product is right for you, consult a car detailing specialist.

Preparation is Key

One important thing to keep in mind when applying car ceramic coating is ensuring the surface of your vehicle is clean. Any dirt, dust, or grime on the surface will create a barrier between the coating and the paint, which can lead to peeling or flaking. You’ll want to wash your vehicle’s surface using a mild soap and water solution before applying any coating products.

After you’ve completed a preliminary wash of your vehicle, it’s best practice to go over the paintwork again with a clay bar. The clay bar will ensure that any stubborn contaminants that you may not have picked up on your initial pass are also removed. Once you’ve removed all of the visible particles on the surface of your vehicle, you can begin to apply the ceramic coating product.

Applying the Ceramic Coating

Make sure to read the instructions on the product you’re using, as some coatings require you to apply them in a thin layer while others can be applied more liberally. First, ensure that your vehicle’s panel is cool to the touch. Then, using a soft, clean microfibre cloth or applicator, spread out the product evenly across the surface until it disappears. Wait around 10 minutes for the car ceramic coating to bond with the surface. Once you’ve applied the coating, you’ll need to let it cure for the amount of time specified on the product packaging.

After Curing

After you’ve applied the coating and it has had time to cure, you can buff off any excess product that may be remaining on the surface of your vehicle. Once you’ve done this, you’re free to apply additional layers of coating for added protection. Just be sure to wait at least 24 hours between coatings. More layers will typically add even greater durability to the car ceramic coating whilst increasing its longevity.

Caring for Your Ceramic Coated Vehicle

Once your vehicle has been coated, it helps to follow a few aftercare tips to help the coating last even longer. For instance, when washing your car, be sure to use a PH neutral shampoo and avoid any harsh chemicals or cleaning agents that could potentially damage the coating. Also, try to keep your vehicle out of direct sunlight and not parked underneath trees where sap or bird droppings could fall onto your car.
